A learning platform for creative practitioners — a curious attitude toward technology is the only criteria to participate.
InterEmbodied brings together interdisciplinary researchers and creative practitioners to explore ideas together — through open research programmes, short courses, and a digital incubation programme for self-directed projects. We start from the premise that meaningful research is grounded in lived experience — of researchers and participants alike — and that the most generative questions live at the intersection of disciplines.
Open to anyone with a curious, creative attitude toward technology — including scholars and practitioners across anthropology, psychology, design, computer science, and the digital humanities, but not limited to them.
Our innovative research projects currently in incubation.
From early ideas looking for collaborators to studies actively gathering data — here's what's live right now.
Traces of Intelligence
Traces of Intelligence is an experimental framework, and at its core a meditation on the nature of data — on what counts as data, what can honestly be read from it — and on what it means to be creative in the age of AI.
We ask: can the ephemeral traces of everyday life — gathered carefully and synthesized deliberately — tell us something real about the futures they're pointing toward?
A research programme exploring computation as an instrument of generative design inquiry — using generative AI to turn hand-made representations of a system into working, interactive simulations that participants can perturb, test, and learn from, rather than static pictures of how the system behaves.
We ask: what does a system reveal about itself only once you can run it, not just look at it — and what does the act of building that model teach the person who builds it?
A research programme developing a method for co-creating speculative design fiction with generative AI — treating the generative system as a creative instrument with a logic of its own, not a substitute author to be judged only by how convincingly it imitates human writing.
We ask: what would it mean to make, and to judge, design fiction on terms suited to how generative computation actually works, rather than on how well it passes for us?
Learn to apply cutting-edge technology to your creative practice.
Practice-based courses for creative practitioners, each built as a sequence of three modules.
Designing Beyond the User
A practice-based introduction to post-human and relational design — moving from designing for a human user toward designing with the many human and non-human entities, including AI and agentic systems, that any system actually involves.
Agentic: A Clean Slate Introduction for Creative Practitioners
An introduction to AI agents for creative practitioners with no prior coding background — starting from what an agent actually is, and building outward through the command line and the browser as two everyday agentic environments, picking up the underlying fundamentals of computation along the way rather than starting from them.
Have a question you want to investigate but no formal research training? Digital Incubation pairs you with a collaborator suited to your skills, then supports you through a research project you design yourself — choosing your own focus, method, and medium — with mentorship from the Lab throughout.
